Seismic Shifts

Privacy policy

Privacy

Seismic Shifts is designed to be minimal in every direction, including in what it knows about you.

Microphone

The work uses the device's microphone to compute, in real time, a single number representing the current acoustic energy in the room it is in and its surrounds. That number drives the trace you see on screen. The audio itself is processed in memory and never written to storage in any form. No recording of audio is created, retained, or recoverable.

What is stored on the device

The work may persist the visualisation data — one numerical value per second representing acoustic energy — to a plain CSV file on the device. These files exist solely on the device they are recorded on. They are excluded from cloud backup. They are equivalent in character to a barometer record: a stream of numbers describing the shape of an environment over time, from which neither speech nor identity can be reconstructed.

Network

The work does not access the network. It contains no analytics, no remote logging, no telemetry, no advertising frameworks, and no third-party SDKs. It does not phone home in any sense.

Tracking

The work performs no tracking. It does not identify, profile, or follow users across applications or websites. No tracking framework is used because there is nothing to track.

Data sharing

No personal data is collected, so no personal data is shared with anyone.

Children

The work is suitable for all ages. It collects no information about anyone, including children.

Permissions

The work requests one permission: microphone access. You may decline; it will simply show no trace activity. You can revoke microphone access at any time in your device's privacy settings.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes — for example, if a future version of the work adds an optional feature that requires it — the change will be reflected here, and any new permissions will be requested explicitly.
